2012-20113 Program
Children from age 3 through 5th grade are invited to join us for Sunday school at 10am each Sunday, beginning Sept. 16th, where our theme will be “Let Your Light Shine!” This theme is based on Matthew 5:14-16:
“You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
Jesus tells us that we are called to be a light to the world. What does that mean? Join us as we begin a year long adventure to discover how everyone, of ANY age, can bring light and life to our world through our love and faith in Jesus.
We will explore different Bible stories and the “Faith Traits” they embody. We will seek to learn from Scripture how we can share the light of Jesus with others in our daily lives. Our Faith Traits will include: Faithfulness, Respect, Generosity, Courage, Forgiveness, Obedience, Patience, Thankfulness, and Love.
The Nursery is open each Sunday morning from 8:45 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. (9:45 to 11:45 in the summer). The nursery is staffed by a group of attentive and well-trained women. Buzzers are available for parents so that they are never that far away.
The Cherub Choir is for children ages 3 through 1st grade. This choir learns fundamentals of music and liturgy and sings at the 9:00 A.M. service four to five times per year, at the St. Francis Day service, on Christmas Eve, and at the Mother's Day Dinner Theater. Vacation Bible School is a hands-on week of faith exploration in the context on art, games, music and fun. Each year Good Shepherd joins with a number of other area congregations to hold one of the most exciting and fulfilling weeks of faith exploration in the city. VBS is a powerful way to again display the love of God made known to us in the stories of scripture and our children always have a marvelous experience that sticks with them throughout the year and beyond.
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism is celebrated nearly every month (except for the Summer) on a specific Sunday. The dates are posted to the home page of the web site and in the weekly Sunday bulletin. Please contact the church office for details of how to sign up.
